GLORIOUS GOODWOOD: Turn of luck for cancer sufferer with a £102,000 Goodwood win

The 50-year-old Hastings man was due for treatment at the Conquest last Friday morning, and when it was put back for half an hour he picked up a copy of the Racing Post and selected four horses running at Goodwood race course - including one called 'Visit'.

He then placed an accumulator bet at Ladbrokes in Bexhill, and watched as all of them romped home at odds of 1,592 to one.

The punter, who has asked not to be named, said: "I usually have a quick glance at the form in the morning and pick out a couple of runners.

"But as the doctors kept me waiting I had a better opportunity to put some proper study in and it looks like it paid off. A day that had a pretty horrible start to it turned out very nicely in the end."

He placed a 10 win "Yankee" and a 50 each way accumulator on the horses in a total stake of 210.

Ladbrokes' cashier support manager Jonathan Claire, who took the bets said: "The guy's a regular of ours and been going through a bit of a rough patch recently so we're delighted his luck has taken a turn for the better."

The punter's previous biggest win was for 16,000 at the Cheltenham Festival ten years ago, and he is now planning to finish his treatment, before spending some of his winnings on a much-needed holiday.
