Girl Guides celebrate World Thinking Day

Rainbows, Brownies, Guides and Leaders from Girlguiding Bognor Regis West District came together to celebrate World Thinking Day.

World Thinking Day is an important day in the guiding calendar, and 60 members of the Girlguiding district came together at an international themed activity and badge day in the New Forest.

They joined members from across London, the South East and the South West for the event at Foxlease, one of the Girlguiding Training and Activity Centres.

In total, 200 participants took part in a range of activities, in zones named after the five Girlguiding World Centres – Pax Lodge in London, the Chalet in Switzerland, Sangam in India, the Cabana in Mexico and Kusafiri in Africa. The activities were themed around Communicate, Taste, Try and Experience.

Activities included orienteering around the Foxlease estate, where the Girl Guides had to find as many markers as they could. Each one was a different Country.

They had a meet and great with birds of prey and everyone had an individual photo taken with a European Eagle Owl.

They also watched a film about WAGGGS (the World Association of Girl Guides and Girl Scouts) and made World Thinking Day greetings cards that will be sent to one of the World Centres.

The girls also had a go at archery and circus skills. The day ended with campfire singing at the campfire circle in the woods.

Lucy and Lily, both Rainbows aged six, had a great day. Lucy said “It was brilliant”, while Lily added “It was amazing”.

Rosie, a Brownie aged nine, said: “I loved trying archery”.

World Thinking Day is celebrated on February 22, the birthdays of Lord and Lady Baden-Powell, the founder of Scouting and his wife, the Chief Guide.
