Gardens saved in swimming pool decision

WORTHING'S historic Denton Gardens have been saved after the borough council decided that the town's new swimming pool should be built alongside the ageing Aquarena.

The decision by the cabinet on Monday evening means that the development will take place on land currently occupied by Peter Pan's playground.

After the meeting, Nikki Sheeran, who started the Denton Gardens Action Group with her husband, Mark, said she was 'over the moon' with the decision.

She said they would be taking further steps to try to protect the valuable site, adding that she was 'horrified' that Denton Gardens had even been considered and it would have changed the face of the area completely.

"I'd like to restore it to its former glory really," she said.
