Funds wil help pay for amphitheatre at Arundel school

ARUNDEL Church of England School has been given a welcome boost to its fund-raising efforts for the year.

The Hilton Avisford Park hotel, Walberton, presented the school with a £500 cheque as part of its parent company’s Community Foundation scheme.

The money will go towards improving the school grounds and helping to build a brand new amphitheatre in the school’s field.

Hotel manager Darren Walsh said: “This idea really came about when we heard the school was trying to build a new amphitheatre.

“We wanted to get involved to help them achieve that goal.

“We try and find a different school each year. It’s a lovely way for us to help give something back to the community.”

Head teacher Andrew Simpson said: “We’re delighted to be the Hilton’s chosen charity. We need every bit of help we can get to raise the money. The children are all excited about the new amphitheatre.

“It will mean so much to the school. It will help improve our drama facilities.

“The amphitheatre will also allow us to enjoy the outdoors when we’re having worship.”

The school still needs to raise a further £10,000 by the end of the year in order to build the amphitheatre.

“Not all of the money will go straight into this project.

“Roughly 10 percent of it will go to supporting our sister school in Sierra Leone.

“It will help to provide the school with the essentials that we all take for granted – books, pens and furniture for instance,” added Mr Simpson.

The next fund-raising event will take place at the Hilton Avisford Park on Sunday, June 26. Children from across the school will be doing a one-mile, sponsored walk.

There will also be stalls and activities at the hotel. All the money raised during the event will go to the school.
