Four million litres of water is being wasted

here may be a water shortage in the South East, but in one West Sussex village there is no shortage of water.

In Washington every day, more than four million litres of water are pumped from an underground aquifer and dumped into a ditch.

According to OFWAT figures that's enough water to meet all the daily water supply needs of more than 27,000 people. Why? So that sand can be excavated from Rock Common Quarry.
