Football club fireworks will be back in Bognor next year

Officials at Bognor Regis Town Football Club had to reluctantly cancel their annual firework display.

The event was usually the club's biggest crowd-puller at their Nyewood Lane ground.

Attendances of several thousand spectators have been attracted to its terraces for an evening of entertainment each year.

They helped to raise thousands of pounds a time to boost the club's finances.

Club spokesman Roger Nash said the decision to scrap the display stemmed from the blaze which wrecked the ground's clubhouse last August.

"On health-and-safety grounds, we were unable to get the funfair in as we would usually do for the fireworks. And there was nowhere for people to buy refreshments.

"We will be back with a bang next year, though."
