Flying start for Bexhill jobs fair

The fair at the De La Warr Pavilion on Friday, April 29, is a unique community-led event.

All the companies and organisations who have registered to take part will have an actual offer for delegates attending the Fair.

The offers range from live jobs and apprenticeships, work experience opportunities to offering support with CV writing and interview skills.

Bexhill MP Huw Merriman recently visited manufacturing company Marshall-Tufflex, who were one of the first businesses to register and become a headline sponsor for the fair.

“I was keen to visit Marshall-Tufflex and to see their products being made on the factory floor to get an insight into their business,” he said.

“It was fascinating to learn how the company has grown and developed since it was established in 1942.

“It continues to provide a diverse range of interesting and rewarding careers for local people so I am delighted that they are a headline sponsor for the first ever Bexhill Jobs and Apprenticeships Fair.”

Marshall-Tufflex provides cable management and pre-fabricated wiring solutions for projects across the world from its base in St Leonards.

Chief executive Paul Hetherington, group personnel development manager Steve Baldry and production and assembly manager Keith Graham took Mr Merriman on a guided tour of the factory to show how their products are made.

Mr Baldry explained to the MP that people often do not realise that manufacturing offers a wide range of careers both in the factory and the office.

Thefair is an ideal opportunity for industry-leaders Marshall-Tufflex to demonstrate that British manufacturing offers interesting and rewarding careers plus unique opportunities to learn new skills.

“Marshall-Tufflex is delighted to be a headline sponsor of the Bexhill Jobs and Apprenticeships Fair,” Mr Baldry said.

“We need to inspire tomorrow’s generation of young people and encourage the view that manufacturing can offer those leaving school, college or university a world of opportunity and space to develop, grow and contribute across a range of skill disciplines.”

Mr Merriman launched the fair to Bexhill College students on Friday (March 18), and cannot wait for it to come around.

“The fair is going to be a great opportunity for local people of all ages to discover the wide variety of career and training opportunities in our area,” he said.

“The fact that over 50 organisations and businesses have already registered to take part in the fair clearly shows that there is a real demand for our local talent.”
