Fishy charity event

Classroom on the Coast will be supporting the BBC Give a Gift event for Children in Need on Saturday morning January 30.

The professional fish cookery school is based at the Stade, in the Old Town, and is funded by Hastings Borough Council.

The Classroom will be open, on Saturday 30 from 10am - 12 noon.

It will be offering delicious free fish taco tasters with crisp succulent fillets of freshly landed fish served in a soft taco with salsa and sour cream and is inviting people to pop along, try some tacos and donate a gift to the Children in Need event in the Stade Hall.

Tracy Hobden, from Hastings Borough Council, said: “Come and meet chef Toby, try the tasters, have a look at the fully equipped, purpose built cookery school right in the heart of the Hastings fishing quarter and find out about future cookery classes for both adults and children.”

The Children in Need appeal raised £37,100,687 in 2015 and donations are still coming in. Since the BBC launched Children in Need in 1980 it has raised over £600 million to change the lives of disabled children and young people in the UK.

Classroom on the Coast was completed in early 2014 with funding from the Fisheries Local Action Group (FLAG).

The purpose built, fully equipped cookery school sits only yards from the famous Hastings fleet.

It runs courses which offer a hands-on chance to learn filleting skills, preserving techniques, restaurant standard recipes to recreate at home, cooking lesser known but delicious alternatives to popular, sometimes overfished species and most importantly to roll up your sleeves and get cooking.

It is also about teaching people of all ages about the fish available right on the doorstep and promoting a love and appreciation for fish.
