Fete success for 1066 Specials

Big Ted raised £183 at the 1066 Specials spring fair - with a little help from his friends.

The huge bear was raffled off and the winning ticket belonged to 10-year-old Luke Kavanagh-Deeprose from St Leonards.

Big Ted was donated by Dreams Furniture Store in Eastbourne as part of fundraising for the 1066 Specials weekend.

"Teams from the emergency services were on duty displaying all the latest equipment."

Sunday came with rain for the start of the Special Needs Football Tournament.

Teams from all over the South-East turned up for the start at 10am but two hours later the weather was worsening, and it was decided for player safety to abandon the tournament as pitches were becoming waterlogged.

Brian added: "Wet and muddy players, organisers and helpers agreed enough was enough so after every player collected their medal, it was time to say farewell for another year."

Despite the weather, the Specials hailed it "a great success" having raised 2,400 over two days.
