Female duo to head up Aldwick Parish Council

An all-female pairing is in charge of Aldwick Parish Council for the first time.

Cllr Carol Wiseman was elected unopposed as chairman of the council at its annual meeting. Her vice-chairman. Cllr Lilian Richardson, was also chosen without any opposition.

The parish council has been headed by a woman once in its 23-year history but the top two positions have usually been occupied by men.

Cllr Mrs Wiseman, who was formerly vice-chairman, said: "It's nice to have the confidence of my fellow councillors. Being chairman is a big challenge and a lot of responsibility but I am quite prepared for that.

"I am looking forward to moving the council along and working in partnership with other people like West Sussex and Arun councils."

Her priority for the coming year, she said, was to make progress on schemes which had been underway for some time.

These included new skateboarding equipment for Avisford Park recreation ground in Rose Green and an adult fitness trail around West Park.

"There are quite a few things we want to get done but the wheels of local government move closely," she explained.
