Felpham parish pledge to monitor site six developments

A commitment to keep a close watch on the site six development has been made by Felpham Parish Council's chairman.

Cllr Paul English used his report for the past year to reassure residents that the council would continue to closely watch the large development.

"As matters concerning site six come up for consultation, notices will be posted and, as with existing meetings, the press and public will be welcome.

"The more we maintain an open door policy, the more we can involve our community and take on board their comments, ideas and concerns.

"Some things we can influence, others are cast and cannot be changed," he said.

The farmland site to the north of the existing housing off Westmorland Drive and the Roundle Estate has permission for 700 houses as well as the eastern section of the Bognor Regis northern relief road.

Detailed approval for 464 of the homes has recently been given by Arun District Council to the developers, Barratt Homes and David Wilson Homes. Detailed plans for a further 100 homes are in abeyance at the moment.

A third of the homes will be affordable, while the numbers of those for sale on the open market are linked to the completion of the relief road.

A site six committee has been established by the parish council to handle the work relating to the area's biggest single development.

Cllr English said: "The committee does have delegated powers to reply directly to items arising from site six, now the plans have started to come to the table.

"It has been agreed that the committee is able, when necessary, to hold public meetings to ensure proper consultation.

"The council is keen to ensure as many residents as possible are involved in the process. To that effect, the clerk is posting agendas of meetings to the residents' associations in Felpham."

Linked to the site six housing is the parish council's desire to ensure the 1m which the developers are providing for existing roads is spent wisely.

"We are looking for off-road calming to make it more expedient to travel around the village than through it," explained Cllr English.

He added that the parish council was also seeking good cycle routes in Felpham to the schools, more frequent buses and routes around the village and 20mph zones in areas of concern. These includes Limmer Lane, the Roundle area and the village centre based on comments by councillors and residents.
