False alarm as fire engine is called to A27 breakdown

Fire services have confirmed that a report of a car fire on the eastbound carriageway of the A27 this afternoon was a false alarm.

A spokesperson for West Sussex Fire and Rescue said a crew from Chichester was called to the scene near Fishbourne Roundabout just after 4pm.

The vehicle is believed to have suffered a blown engine or a mechanical failure, the fire spokesperson added.

Police are en route to the scene, where firefighters will hand over the incident to police officers, according to fire services.

There are no reported injuries.
