Faith Alive choir suffer egg attack

Traders in Hastings Old Town had hired the choir, Faith Alive, for the occasion.

The choir's performance was cut short after 20 minutes.

A disappointed trader, who did not want to be named for fear of repercussions, said: "We noticed a group of youths there and they started throwing eggs.

"It spoiled the evening.

"There were four eggs thrown '” one missed a girl by a few inches.

"One landed on the keyboard and the keyboard player said he would not switch it on again because it would damage it."

She said: "We have learned since then they were a group of young boys who were throwing eggs at shop fronts.

"The Spar shop and Londis won't sell eggs to them because this has happened before."

The shopkeeper, who had helped organise the evening, said it was a good choir and it was very disappointing what had happened.

"After 20 minutes of the choir being there we had to call it a day," she said.

"The atmosphere in the street was fantastic and we had a good response but it definitely spoilt the evening.

"We had put so much effort into everything and after 20 minutes it was over."

She said the youths were aiming eggs at onlookers and the members of the choir, which came from Bexhill.

"You don't expect things like this.

"I have been here for 22 years and you have good traders here and this sort of thing puts everybody off."

Faith Alive is a lively Christian singing group consisting chiefly of teenage girls.

Members perform regularly at St. Mary Magdalene's Roman Catholic Church.
