Electricity monitors available at Horsham Library

The monitors can track electricity use over a day, week or month and indicate how much various appliances cost to run.

By identifying the appliances with the highest running cost, residents can then adjust how often they are used and save money, as well as reducing carbon emissions. Horsham District Council is working with West Sussex County Council to make this scheme available to residents and is being funded by HDC.

The electricity monitor model that is available to borrow has been rigorously tested by consumer champion magazine Which? and was awarded the Which? “Best Buy” status.

Andrew Baldwin (Con, Holbrook East), HDC’s cabinet member for the environment is championing this new service. He said: “I am delighted that we are able to bring this brand new service to Horsham district residents through the local library.

“I hope residents will borrow the electricity monitor to see just how much money they could be saving.”

Five monitors are currently available to borrow from Horsham Library in Lower Tanbridge Way in Horsham town centre.

If it proves popular and a success then additional monitors will be available to borrow from the District’s other libraries later in the year.

Lionel Barnard (Con, Henfield), cabinet member for residents’ services, which includes libraries at West Sussex County Council, said:

“This is another example of the way in which libraries are a community resource, something that we are really keen on developing.

“Fuel bills are a worry for many people and becoming more of an important part of the household budget, and I hope that people will take advantage of this offer and, hopefully, save money.”
