Eastergate school's lesson in travel

A SAFE place for scooters is Eastergate C of E Primary School's latest travel initiative.

The scooter pod was a competition prize.

It is being installed at the Church Lane school to enable those of its 134 children who prefer to use two wheels to safely park their transport. This addition to the school’s sustainable travel work is among the measures which have helped it to win a Travel Mark 2 award.

Pieter Montyn, the county council’s deputy cabinet member for highways and transport, presented the award.

Graham Oakford, the school’s deputy headteacher, said: “The children shared their views with Mr Montyn about travelling to school.

“They also showed him some of the posters they have made about walking to school rather than travelling by car.”
