News from Ninfield and Hooe

SADLY Sally, the Rector Simon's wife, lost her battle against cancer on Thursday, February 28. Sally's funeral will be held at 12.15pm at St Mary's Church, Ninfield, on Thursday, March 13.

LENT COFFEE MORNING: The second of the three Lent Coffee Mornings was most successful, the sun shone, lots of people came and made the most of the company and refreshments. Several people chose to enjoy sitting in the garden. The raffle was a success too.

The last of these coffee mornings will be held on Wednesday, March 12, from 10.30am in the Reading Room. Please do think of joining in.

CHRISTIAN WOMEN'S FELLOWSHIP: Their next meeting is on Wednesday, March 12 and will be held, as usual, in the Reading Room from 2.30pm. The speaker, Thelma, has called her talk 'Birds in my life'. Visitors are most welcome.

NINFIELD PARISH COUNCIL: The Annual Parish Meeting is to be held on Wednesday, March 12 in the Memorial Hall, Bexhill Road from 7.15pm.

If you have opinions or suggestions which you wish to voice this is another opportunity to do so. The Annual Meeting is when the work of the Parish Councillors is reviewed and your questions and suggestions sought.

Next Wednesday (March 12) in the Memorial Hall the Parish Councillors, the District Councillor and the County Councillors will be waiting.

JUMBLE SALE: The ladies of Ninfield Flower Group are preparing for a busy day at their jumble sale on Saturday, March 15.

This will involve, as all jumble sales do, hard work which it is hoped will be rewarded by lots of customers and a healthy profit. The money raised is for their next Flower Festival.

Looking for a bargain, this may prove to be the time and place to find it in the Memorial Hall.

WOMEN'S WORLD DAY OF PRAYER: This takes place in Ninfield Methodist Church at 2.30pm this afternoon.

Members of St Mary's, Ninfield and St Oswald's, Hooe will join those of the Methodist Church. Visitors male and female are most welcome.

ANNUAL PAROCHIAL CHURCH MEETING: This year the APCM will be held on Sunday (March 9) in the afternoon. In previous years this meeting has been held after a morning service but due to the change to service times it will be held at 2.30pm.

Please do try to be at St Mary's on Sunday afternoon when the Rural Dean will chair the meeting.

HOOE OPEN GROUP: One week today, Friday, March 14, the speaker at the Hooe Open Group meeting will be Albert Hall who has entitled his talk "Boys Town".

After some consideration Edna decided this talk may appeal to a wider audience and consequently has invited gentlemen to accompany their ladies to the meeting in Hooe village hall starting at 2.30pm. Ladies please do not forget your pots containing the 5p pieces, something for the bring and buy and maybe a raffle prize, enjoyment is guaranteed.

MOBILE LIBRARY: I am sure the ever welcome service will be calling in our two villages tomorrow (Saturday). In Hooe you will find the van parked opposite Denbigh Court from 1.50pm until 2.35pm.

From Hooe the library van is driven to Ninfield calling first in Millfield arriving at 2.50pm and remaining until 3.25pm. After which it is driven to Downs View where it stays from 3.40pm and leaves at 4.05pm.

SO SORRY: I was contacted by John Pilbeam after the news he and Joan shared with us appeared in this column. I promised to correct my error.

They were not Cabbage White butterflies they had spotted in their garden last month, that really would have been noteworthy, they were Cabbage White caterpillars, as most of you probably guessed. Every now and then the fact that I am not a 'born and bred country person' is very apparent.

John chuckled when he mentioned my mistake. I promised a full apology, I am truly sorry and will hope to do better next time!
