Up to 15 people from Hindover Road and Crescent told councillors their lives would be made a misery by increased noise, pollution and traffic problems caused by the development.

It was also suggested that residents of the new flats would be able to see straight into the bedrooms of some homes. Both town and district councillors agreed the flats would be an over development and rejected the plans. However, the landowner appealed and a Government planning inspector was called in to decide. It was revealed this week that the inspector had sided with residents and councillors.

Betty Landrock of Hindover Road, was one of the campaigners who attended meetings, signed a petition, and wrote letters of complaint against the development. The top floor of the three-storey block of flats would have looked into her bedroom window, and car parking backed on to her garden.

She said: 'I am delighted it has been rejected, all the work was worth the effort.
