Death of military stalwart Marjorie

Marjorie Campbell, who died on March 13, was a captain in the Auxiliary Territorial Service during World War II.

For many years she was a part of various voluntary organisations including the Bexhill branches of the Royal British Legion and the Royal Artillery Association.

She was the chairman of the Royal British Legion Welfare Committee, which provides help and support to ex-servicemen, women and their families, for 20 years before becoming vice president of the Bexhill branch of the Royal British Legion for 12 years.

She was also the President of the Bexhill Branch of the Royal Artillery Association for about seven years.

Mr Ken Livingstone, the last chairman of the Bexhill branch before it merged with Hastings, spoke highly of Mrs Campbell.

He said: "The Royal Artillery Association would have folded up a great deal earlier if not for her.

"She was a wonderful woman who did a lot of good work."

Mrs Campbell's funeral will be held at 1pm on Thursday April 9 at St Barnabas Church on Sea Road.

Following the funeral a reception will be held for family and guests in the function room of the Royal British Legion Comrades Club in London Road.
