Death of man in Bognor Regis being treated as suspicious

A man has been found dead near the pier in Bognor Regis.

Police are treating the as yet unexplained death as suspicious after the body was found yesterday afternoon (Monday, August 3).

Officers were called to Waterloo Square at 3.35pm following a report that the body of a middle aged man had been discovered.

The cause of death is unclear and a post mortem examination is being carried out today (Tuesday, August 4).

Officers have been at the scene and are making extensive enquiries in the area to establish who the victim is and the circumstances surrounding what happened.

Senior investigating officer, Det Ch Insp Steve Johns of Sussex Police Major Crime Branch, is appealing for witnesses who may have seen or heard anything suspicious in the grounds of Waterloo Square during the day on Monday to come forward.
