Dance Nights at Athletics Club

THEMED dance nights aimed at all ages and pockets are to be held at Bexhill Athletics Club on Little Common Road.

The first night planned is a Soul and Motown Night on May 30 from 8pm-midnight.

Just a week after that on June 6 there is a 70s and 80s Night.

The events have been organised by Mick Matthews who is hiring out the Athletics Club in order to put on a variety of themed dance nights, which will cost only 5 entrance.

When asked where he got the idea, Mick said: "I personally think now everyone is skint and can't afford to go to pubs and clubs."

He added "I think communities need putting back together. Everyone is skint so I thought about having smaller cheaper dances.

"If you go out in London it's 25 for the night, and beer is 7 a pint. But this will be 5 for the night and it's one of the cheapest bars in town

"It is not just aimed at the young, it is for everyone and all ages. There's a 60's and 70's night coming up, and I am also looking at a 50's night.

Mick lives in Bexhill Old Town and is a specialist roofer by trade.

He is also a single father of six, has been a youth leader locally and has done street work with young people.

He has plenty of ideas for future events and said: "We are going to have a black and white night '“ it's one of the best parties you could ever go to.

"The ladies dress up in black dresses and men are in white shirts and suits with black tie. Also we might do a Hawaiian Night and a Toga Night, even a Beat The Credit Crunch night."
