Curtain up on Curzon theatre plan

Mr Cotterill plans to open the old Curzon Playhouse in Western Road by the end of the year under the new name the Redstack Playhouse.

The venue will be used as a cinema, theatre, bingo hall and live music venue.

Members of the planning committee were delighted that a local businessman had seen the cinema's potential and was helping to regenerate the town.

Town Mayor Joy Hughes attended the meeting to speak on the matter despite not being a member of the planning committee.

She was enthusiastic about the proposal.

Officials received one letter of objection and seven letters supporting the scheme.
