Two men arrested after six horses die in Lewes barn fire

Police have arrested two men after six horses died in a fire at a barn in Lewes.

Offices were called shortly before 6am on Saturday (January 16) to reports of a fire at a barn in the Rodmell area of Lewes, said police.

No persons were injured, but six horses tragically died in the fire, confirmed police.

A spokesman said: “The fire is being treated as suspicious and two men, aged 40 and 24, have been arrested on suspicion of arson.

“They have both been released on conditional bail until February 13 while enquiries continue.

“The investigation is ongoing and anyone who saw what happened or who may have any other information is asked to contact police online or by calling 101 quoting serial 195 of 16/01.

“Alternatively, you can contact the independent charity Crimestoppers anonymously on 0800 555 111.”
