Thieves target South Downs homes over weekend

Four homes in the South Downs were broken into last weekend in a series of burglaries that police believe may be linked.

Thieves targeted homes in Steyning, Pulborough, Storrington and West Chiltington between Friday February 13 and Sunday February 15.

In each case, the intruders entered the home through a door at the rear of the property, and in three of the four break-ins, the door was smashed to gain entry.

Valuables were stolen when a house in Clivedale Gardens, Steyning, was broken into between 5pm and 8.30pm on Friday.

Police said the elderly occupants were at home when a person unknown to them entered the house through a kitchen door.

A car key was stolen along with a wallet containing credit cards, cash and a driving licence.

Thieves broke into a home in Glebelands, Pulborough, on Saturday, between 11am and 12.45am the following day.

Jewellery and a quantity of Euros were stolen from the property.

Two cameo brooches were among the items stolen from a house in Mill Lane, Storrington.

The home was broken into between 10am on Friday and 4.30pm on Sunday.

And the fourth offence occurred in Nyetimber Copse, West Chiltington, where offenders smashed a rear door with a brick.

No items are believed to have been taken in the break-in, which occurred between 7am on Friday and 5pm on Sunday.

The serial number for the offence in Steyning is 1464 of 13/02, the theft in Pulborough is 64 of 14/02, the burglary in Storrington is 956 of 15/02 and the break-in in West Chiltington is 998 of 15/02.
