Man arrested after large police presence in Bexhill town centre

Officers were initially made aware of two men and a woman acting suspiciously in Western Road on Sunday (January 3). Officers attended and the group left the area.
However, a police spokesman said officers searched the area and found a suitcase in an alleyway nearby, filled with suspected stolen items.

Hide AdOfficers were in the process of taking the items to the store they were believed to have come from, when police received a call about a disturbance in Devonshire Road.
Officers attended and, according to a police spokesman, arrested a 42-year-old man on suspicion of two counts of theft from a shop; threats to kill; using threatening/abusive/insulting words/behaviour to cause harassment/alarm/distress; and common assault of an emergency worker.
He was released on conditional bail until January 29 while enquiries continue, police added.
