Councillors' disgust at litter strewn road

Willingdon councillors Tony Seabrook and Bob King took matters in to their own hands when they found a large amount of litter in Willingdon.

Cllr King said: 'I was disgusted with the state of my road and felt direct action was best so Tony and I cleared up the road and the underpass under the Eastbourne Road.

'If everyone did the same to their roads, or better still, didn't drop litter, Willingdon would look a lot better.'

Cllr Seabrook said: 'Despite the extra litter picks the parish council pays for the road was a mess so we cleared it up '“ it was as simple as that '“ no fuss, we just got on with it.

'It has been suggested to me that a lot of the rubbish had come out of bins being emptied during the weekly refuse collection and I have asked Wealden District Council to ensure that when there are spillages their staff pick it up and don't just leave it.'
