Confusion for Crawley's twinning group after referendum result

The voluntary group has strengthened links and organised cultural exchanges between Crawley and Dorsten, Germany, since the towns were twinned in 1974.

Membership Secretary Michael James said: “I cannot see it breaking up - it depends on how the council in Crawley and the local government in Dorsten react to the situation.

“We don’t know if the partnership will cease between the town councils.

“It’s a job to know what’s going to happen.

“It’s a very confusing situation really.”

He said his association will discuss the issues in early July.

Its volunteers were due to visit their counterparts in the Dorsten Twinning Association in August.

Mr James said: “It’s a really friendly association between us and I don’t think the friendship will change at all.”
