Coma boy, 12, jokes with friends

SCHOOLBOY Jarrad Rush who was knocked down by a car and put in a coma is making remarkable progress.

Jarrad, 12, of Vale Road, Seaford, was crossing the road on his way to a youth group on January 28 when the accident happened.

He was taken to King's College Hospital, London, where his mother kept a bedside vigil. Now a friend of the family says he is joking with friends and his wicked sense of humour is starting to shine through.

Amanda Whiteford, who also lives in Vale Road, has a son, Kieran, who is friends with Jarrad.

She said: 'He is doing really, really well. He is just amazing. He has got a wicked sense of humour and it is lovely to hear him chatting away with the boys. He makes them laugh and they make him laugh. From where he was to where he is now is just amazing and we are really, really happy.'

After the accident Amanda, along with other caring neighbours, organised a treasure hunt to raise funds to support the family. Shortly afterwards, the Vale Community Association (VCA) formed to try to raise money for signs to improve road safety. An Easter egg hunt was held at The Salts on Easter Monday to add to the road safety funds. It was a huge success, making 105, with many families turning out to join in the fun. The weather was hot and Mr Rabbit caused much excitement among the children.

Amanda said: 'They all cheered when Mr Rabbit appeared.'
