Cinderella comes to Steyning

STEYNING'S first pantomime in more than a decade will be performed this weekend.

The classic tale of Cinderella will be re-lived in four performances at Steyning Grammar School on Saturday, December 20, and Sunday, December 21.

Jacque Gilbrook, director of the pantomime, said: "We just thought it would be a lovely idea to give something back.

"I'd been involved in the Steyning Festival and thought it would be a nice community event. It's been great and everybody's been having great fun with it."

Excited

Cinderella is being produced by 15-year-old Luke Redfern.

"It was an idea that I had thought I was going to do as a school production but I met with Jacque Gilbrook and we decided to make it a community event," said Luke, who attends Steyning Grammar School.

"I'm excited and quietly nervous at the same time."

Luke has produced five school shows, but this will be his first drama piece as well as his first community production.

Panto

Sara Bowers, who runs the Steyning Bookshop, invited some of the cast to perform a preview of the pantomime at the recent late-night shopping event. "The preview was excellent," she said.

"It was very, very funny and there was beautiful singing as well.

"It seems as if it's going to be very good.

"We have such talented people in Steyning.

"Luke is really good and really committed.

"We haven't had a panto in Steyning for so many years, I think it's going to be great."

The pantomime will be performed at Steyning Grammar School at 2pm and 7pm on Saturday and Sunday.
