Chip-tastic

Hurrah - it's National Chip Week!

Anyone wanting to celebrate this particular British seaside favourite can do so in style at Minnie Bertha's fish and chip shop on the Marina.

Owner Paul Curtis will be giving customers to indulge themselves with chips and possibly win a prize of a holiday break at the same time.

He will be giving away 2,000 scratchcards during the week which begins on Monday February 11 and ends the following Sunday.

He opened the traditional-looking Minnie Bertha's in the middle of January and aims at providing the best from the present as well as the past.

Paul said: "I named it after my grandma - I just thought it would be a good name and she was really important to me growing up.

"I have tried to mix the old with the new, I have got the old style black boards and tiling on the walls, but everything is brand new.

"Customers love the shop - everyone does comment and they say it is lovely. They love the green and white colour - I think I did something right."

Paul has run two fish and chip shops already - one in Gillingham and the other in Town Hall Square - but couldn't resist opening this new one because of the location on the seafront.

He has introduced cardboard boxes instead of paper so customers can enjoy their fish and chips dry and crispy instead of soggy and steamed, and hopes to keep them happy with a range of fish including pollock, plaice, haddock and saithe as an alternative to cod.
