Chartered accountant slams budget announcement

Ainsley Gill, Partner at McPhersons Chartered Accountants, has slammed the budget announcements this week that will impact on businesses in the local area.

Despite minimal consultation the Chancellor announced a set of major policy changes concerning capital gains tax, capital allowances and an attack on family businesses known as 'income shifting'.

Ainsley said:

"The business community has been up in arms about the manner in which the Government has brought in these measures and the Chancellor said little to correct that position. If Ministers consulted in the first place it would surely foster a better relationship with the business community and help prevent ill conceived policies."

The rises in other tax, particularly fuel duty, was also a source of real concern for business leaders.

Ainsley added:

"The 2p increase on fuel may have been delayed until October but that concession won't hold much comfort for so many small businesses where road transport is a key element in how they operate."
