All group exercise classes and summer holiday play-schemes will be continuing as normal, and members will still have access to a fitness studio, weights room, café, crèche and reception throughout the process.

The nearby cricket pavilion and football club will become temporary changing rooms, toilets and shower facilities, to ensure existing members can continue to use the facilities while works take place.

Impulse Leisure’s Jez Charlton, who manages Chanctonbury Sport & Leisure Centre, said: “I feel very proud that our Leisure Centre has done so well over the last 25 years but to now be able to embark on a huge redevelopment is very exciting for our members, staff and for the local area as a whole.

“I’ve worked for Impulse Leisure at Chanctonbury since 2000, starting as a Fitness Instructor and working my way up to Centre Manager in 2008, so I have seen many changes over the years and I’m pleased we’re now able to embark on this new chapter.”

The redevelopment works are expected to take a maximum of 16 weeks, with the new facilities available for use in late November.

A grand reopening is then scheduled for January 2015.
