St Laurence Church Sunday school dispelled the February gloom by holding a pancake party in the Village Hall on the Sunday before the beginning of Lent. Invitations were sent to the children of the village and the school. Around 30 children and their parents turned up to be rewarded with pancake cooking and eating of course and a selection of have a go crafts. The afternoon finished up with pancake races (indoors!) and games organised by Father Michael. A good time was had by all.

The Family Bingo Night held in the Village Hall a couple of weeks ago raised an amazing £361.20 for the parish church of St Laurence and it was thoroughly enjoyed by old and young alike. The next fund raising event will be ‘The Big Read’, a sponsored book read in the church for an hour following the Sunday morning service on 3rd March. Sponsor forms are available in the church.

What happens when the President and Chairman of the football club get tickets to attend an FA Cup match at Arsenal last Saturday and leave the village team to their own devices? Arsenal lose and Catsfield earn a 1 - 1 draw against Mountfield! Is this a coincidence? Tony Luke scored for Catsfield in a game played on our very wet pitch, but at least it was good to get a match played at last. With the week ahead forecast to be mainly dry, there should be a match on Saturday versus Ore Athletic.

Do remember to get your tickets for Chalkfoot Theatre’s final performance in the Village Hall on Thursday 28th February when they play “Prisoner of Zenda” for us. Tickets available from the village shop with many thanks to Jim and Sarah Campbell.

What a delight to have some dry weather and be able to enjoy the warm sunshine in the garden for a few days, at last one has the feeling that maybe Spring is just around the corner after all! The snowdrops are looking beautiful and have been joined by crocuses, primroses and daffodils. Already it’s well into Lent, with Shrove Tuesday and Ash Wednesday behind us and Mothering Sunday coming up on 10th March.

Don’t forget there are three village events on Friday 1st March. Lunch Club as usual in the Village Hall, still looking for new members so contact Libby on 892360 if you want to come for a delicious meal priced at only £3!
