Ninfield Flower Group: The flower arrangers of the Ninfield Flower Group held an exhibition in the Memorial Hall over the August bank holiday weekend and if you didn’t get there, you missed a treat. The theme was ‘On the box’ and the twenty-five arrangements depicting various TV programmes were outstanding and the three Catsfield arrangers – Pauline, Victoria and Nicky excelled. The imagination of all the arrangers with their choice of flowers and accessories was amazing and visitors were invited to vote for their ‘best in show’ - what an impossible task that was! The money raised over the weekend will be divided between three charities. The next show will be in two year’s time and I would urge you to go.

Sport: The last cricket match in a good season for Catsfield ended in a win away at Netherfield. We batted first and reached tea at 123 for 8, top scorer being Tom Hammick with 29, closely followed by David Taylor 27. Netherfield were all out for 71. Ed Malins, who travels from the London area every week to play for us, was rewarded for his loyalty by bowling figures of 7 for 35 and our home grown player David Taylor caught a brilliant catch. Once again, we are indebted to the Cook family for all they do to keep the team going, Barbara and Catherine for always doing the scoring, Keith for captaining the side and getting a team and wife Christine for her support and tea duties. Time now to oil bats, clean boots and dream of next year playing on our beautiful Playing Field, hopefully in good weather.

Rain stopped play: Farming has halted for a while with some crops still to be harvested and the ground too wet for planting.

Mobile Library: The Mobile Library will again be outside the Village Hall in Church Road in its usual place from 11.55am – 12.30pm next Friday 11th September.

School: The school holidays will be over next week and sadly, the roads will get busier again. Big changes affect so many of the children in September, the little ones starting school for the very first time, the eleven year olds moving to senior school and becoming the youngest again and the older ones going on to colleges and universities. Unfortunately the weather hasn’t been too good for anyone staying at home for the holidays and as happens so often, it may change for the better as autumn approaches.

The Catsfield Choir: Before the service, each and every Sunday morning, a group of people gather, greet, exchange pleasantries and then ready themselves for the task ahead. These happy band of brothers and sisters are the St Lawrence Church Choir and although they may not consider it a task, a lot of practice and hardwork goes into producing a collective voice each week.

With the recent departure of John Kemp to pastures new, the choir faces a problem often faced over many years and that is how to replace someone to create the sound that you hear and love each week. Maybe you are the person to do this. St Lawrence is looking for anyone who might have that God given talent. The choir at present stands at an average of 9 members per week and looks to increase this.

John along with former organist and choirmaster Martin Carter both joined the choir as young boys and were both long serving, for the church has always had a junior choir and still has, so any youngsters with what it takes are welcome. Another sad loss was that of Mary Beal who along with husband Ray were regulars with the choir. So we accept people of all ages who think they might have that talent.

The St Lawrence choir also performs at various competitions, weddings and concerts under the guidance of current choirmaster Bob Andrew, who is always willing to offer any tuition needed. So please contact Bob either at choir practice, Thursday evenings at 6.00 pm at St Lawrence or at Sunday Service where you will hear a sound to lift your heart and spirit. From a choir member.

Talent Night in Sedlescombe: We are on the hunt for performers for the above event. Do you love to entertain? Then come and be part of the show to be held on stage in Sedlescombe village hall on Friday 18 September from 7pm. There is no entry fee and performers from all areas are welcome but there are limited spaces to give everyone a fair chance to shine on stage.

Professional sound person and system available to use. There is a £100 first prize donated by Dorton Reclamation along with money prizes for the runners up. Audience tickets will be on sale soon at just £5. There will be a bar and food available through the evening, so please mark your diaries to either take part or come along to enjoy the event. Organised by the Friends of Sedlescombe Church Heritage Trust. To book your place to perform on the night please call Jean Dann on 882438.
