Castle becomes tourist board's 1,000th visitor attraction

ARUNDEL Castle has joined the tourist board's national quality scheme for attractions. VisitEngland, the country's national tourist board has signed the castle up as its 1,000th attraction and the home to the Duke of Norfolk is in the scheme for the first time.

Following assessment, by VisitEngland’s independent assessors and the Duke received the accreditation plaque from Lady Cobham, VisitEngland’s chairman on Monday, this week.

Lady Cobham commented: “I am delighted to welcome Arundel Castle into the VisitEngland quality scheme. This is one of the most beautiful stately homes in England. Our assessors praised Arundel Castle for offering a truly memorable experience to visitors where standards of interpretation and customer care were very high and the presentation of the grounds and gardens was outstanding.”

Set in magnificent grounds and overlooking the River Arun in West Sussex, Arundel Castle has welcomed visitors since 1800. As well as the magnificent new Collector Earl’s Garden, visitors can enjoy climbing the ancient Castle keep, and discovering the splendour of the Castle rooms and bedrooms.

Centuries of national and family history are reflected in the fine collection of furniture dating back to the 16th century, clocks, tapestries, portraits by Van Dyke, Gainsborough and Canaletto, as well as religious, heraldic and historical items from the Duke’s collection including some personal possessions of Mary Queen of Scots.

The VisitEngland quality award for attractions is a recognised stamp of approval.

Visitors to England can be assured that if they see the organisation’s red rose logo outside an attraction it has been annually assessed by an independent assessor.
