Brews are a recipe for success at Yapton

A RECORD number of beer-lovers enjoyed the first midday session of Yapton's annual real ale festival.

The turnout of 459 for the Saturday opening at Yapton Village Hall was the third year running a new high had been set.

Its popularity helped to keep the overall attendance at last weekend’s three-day festival held by Camra’s Western Sussex branch around 1,000.

Branch chairman Phil Wildsmith said: “This was our 23rd festival and yet another success.

“We only had damp patches at the bottom of the caskets when we packed everything away.”

The lunchtime session’s attendance was due to a mixture of good weather, a vintage bus service from Barnham railway station and the range of ales from around the country.

“We had ales from Cornwall and the North of England as well as those from the breweries at Ford and Oving among others.

“Our visitors also came from far and wide, including northern Sweden,” he said.
