Sadly the entertainment by Brede Players has had to be cancelled; however there will be enough in the garden to keep you occupied. It has been said the garden is very interesting; it is divided into areas, all are different, as are the three green houses. There are also three ponds so anyone bringing children please keep them close as gates will be open for free movement around the garden, there is a small play area for them. There will be a plant, raffle, book, bric a brac and cake stall – cakes would be welcome please cake bakers. The proceeds are for our Brede Village Hall to go towards the refurbishment of items in the Hall. Parking is along the road also the Rainbow Trout has kindly agreed to allow people to use the bottom of their car park. The garden is a short walk from there. Perhaps some people would like to make a day of it and have a Carvery lunch at the pub before the event.

Netherfield CC v Brede CC last Sunday, put into bat at Netherfield. Brede encountered a tricky surface with some early deliveries rearing alarmingly toward the noggins of our brave favourites. A.R.Fryer (14) ducked and weaved for a while before leaving a ball that crashed into his off stump bringing in G.Avann. George along with his ever reliable brother E.Avann moved the score along smoothly until the G man also found his poles disturbed for 27. Ed meanwhile disappointed the travelling support unusually failing to reach three figures, caught flicking casually to the on side for a poised 45. S.Fathers BCC Batsman of the year in 2012 soon found his scoring form, the leg side area taking a fearful pounding as he cruised to 49*his innings containing more hooks than a large out of town nightclub cloakroom. Unfortunately Father’s was denied a half century by a selfish T.Waters who hogged the last over strike as he blasted an irascible 13*. Brede totalled 197-6 at the interval with a furious N.McDonagh lambasting the captain for leaving him down the order and yet again unused with the bat, S.Newble low of spirits after the skipper had harshly adjudged him LBW and the legendary Deadbatt Gritt foul in mood after the boss had unfairly left him out of the side at the last minute.

Brede soon had the home side in trouble after tea and at 9-3 Netherfield looked a beaten side but a sharp shower changed the condition of the ball and the course of the game as wickets became increasingly hard to come by. Brede employed a number of bowlers to force the win. A probing G.Avann, an excitable T.Waters , Cosmic as usual unorthodox, The seasoned P.Watts, E.Avann in twirly mode and promising leggie A.Bird all turned their arm over . Maybe Brede should have thrown the ball to I.Sutton, after all it worked to great effect earlier in the season at Lydd. But short-sightedly they didn’t and it wasn’t to be as Netherfield held on finishing on 95-8 with G.Cooper pick of the batsmen with 30 runs to his name.

Brede 197-6 Netherfield 95-8 Match Drawn. Our Cricketers are at home this week and are playing on the Recreation ground against Hurst Green, as always we wish them luck.
