Boost for children's cancer charity

A cheque for 265 was presented to Jo Nash from the charity on Friday by Rocks Park Primary School, Uckfield.

The money was donated during special collections following the school's seasonal performances in December.

Seven-year-old Rees Rider presented the cheque during a 'Golden Assembly'.

He and his family are benefitting from the support given by Clic Sargent during his treatment for leukaemia.

The Sussex Express reported in December last year that Rees is facing three-and-a-half years of intensive treatment for leukaemia.

But when presented with a special Harrods' teddy bear, his first thought was for other people needing help.

He donated the bear to be raffled for the Royal Marsden Cancer Research Charity which aims to raise money for people suffering from cancer and find ways to cure them.

Rees, from West Park, Uckfield, joined 300 other youngsters to visit world-famous Harrods where the morning had been set aside for fun and games by a leukaemia charity.

Rees' treatment is being shared between the Royal Marsden Hospital and the Royal Sussex County Hospital, Brighton.
