Blood trail leads police to suspect

A trail of blood led police to a stash of stolen goods from a seafront newsagent.

These included drinks, chocolate, magazines, and sweets snatched in a burglary at the Marina early on Monday morning.

A scaffolding pole was used to smash a pane of glass in the front door and then gain entry.

Sussex Police officers called out to the crime scene soon after found blood inside and then discovered a trail of it leading around the corner.

They followed the blood trail right up to a property in Wilton Road and having forced their way inside found no-one there but all the stolen goods from the shop.

They later saw a male walking along the promenade whom they questioned to confirm he lived in the property and realised he also had cuts on his hand.

He was arrested immediately on suspicion of burglary and has been bailed pending further inquiries.
