Billingshurst fundraiser ‘beats any expectations we had’

The people of Billingshurst really came together to support our most local branch of Macmillan, we are very proud of the way our fundraising efforts were embraced by all who came and had fun with us, no one should face cancer alone and you all made sure that Macmillan can help more people near us. Well done!

Children were captivated by a magic show, hair plaiting, and candyfloss, while the grown ups danced to High Octane Junkies and Throbbin’ Hood, ate paella, hog roast and pizza all cooked in the gardens, crowds looked on as Sophie Benning of Coco’s, Billingshurst cut Vicky Cooper-Johnstone’s hair, which she had been growing for three years, specifically for the day, it has been sent to the Little Princess Trust in Hove to be turned into a wig for a child who has lost their own hair because they’ve had cancer.

It was well worth doing, Vicky’s haircut raised £1,200 of our total.

We have a long list of thanks to make, please be assured however small your contribution seems to you, it was a huge help, without support from volunteers, friends and families donating to the just giving account, businesses like Classic Bags of Piries place, Ceramic Shack, Jakes Cars, or Keith and Lori at Fowlers Estate Agents, who gave luxury items for the auction and sponsorship of the day’s attractions, Louise Firchau aka Paper Panda, for raising £200 for us selling an exclusive piece of papercut art, Sakakini Jewellers for donating a diamond which raised £400, thanks to Look Fantastic, Energys, Dyson Printers, Mungo’s Cocktail Bar, our fab bands, George Nicholl, Random Hall, Alex Meade at Rolls Royce, there really are too many names to mention, we have a couple of boards in the garden with names of supporters, If we haven’t mentioned you please know that we couldn’t have done it without you.

Enormous thanks go to Dave and Russell at Dave Dyer Photography, who worked for hours free of charge, producing an amazing video of the day, and then after the event.

This video was Macmillan’s highest trending tweet last week, was seen by 2,000 people in three days and is well worth a watch via the WSCT Facebook page.

Last but not least, thank you to each volunteer, Terri, Carly, Carli, Ben, Niamh and Phoebe Anne, Claire and to each member of our team for working tirelessly for six months, you have a few months off now but then we’re back to it for our Family Funday for Macmillan 2015, though let’s not set a target for next year, because goodness knows how we will better £7098.22.

We all have our own reasons for supporting this charity, there have been tears this year and it was an emotional day, we have been overwhelmed by your generosity, we do hope you’ll put this in your diary, you will not want to miss it! 25th July 2015.
