Bexhill's Classic Car Association support National Drive It Day

NATIONAL 'Drive It' day got off to a flying start on Sunday morning, with twenty of Bexhill's Classic Car Association's (BCCA) departing from the starting grid at the clock tower.

The sun blessed jaunt, which took BCCA members through the countryside up to Catsfield and then down to the coast to Fairlight, was in support of the Federation of British Historic Vehicle Club's (FBHVC) St George's Drive It Day and, to raise funds for the Irvine Unit at Bexhill Hospital.

BCCA member Keith Robinson, proud owner of one of the two gleaming Armstrong Siddeley Star Sapphire's displayed in pole position, explained more about the day and what they hoped to achieve.

He said: "BCCA members are out with their classic cars supporting Drive It Day, not only giving the public a display of these beautiful old cars, but also to raise the profile of the Irvine Unit."

He added: "We have a bucket that we will pass round when we stop at Catsfield and later at Fairlight and the money we raise today will go towards buying new chairs for the unit's staff room."

The Irvine Unit provides rehabilitation services for the elderly and the BCCA recently presented them with a microwave for the staff room, bought with money from funds they had raised.

BCCA's convoy of cars which, along with the magnificent Armstrong Siddeley's, also included a 1966 Humber Snipe and a 1972 Rover P5B 3.5 litre.

FBHVC came up with the initiative for Drive It Day in order to raise the profile of all licensed historic vehicles by getting owners of classic cars out on the road to be seen and appreciated by the public and, say that the club 'exists to uphold the freedom to use old vehicles'.
