Bexhill teenagers learn about media industry

Hundreds of teenagers had the chance to learn all about the world of acting and performing arts during a three-day event at the De La Warr Pavilion.

Students from St Richard's Catholic College, Bexhill High, Bexhill College and Robertsbridge Community College visited the BBC Blast Creative Village on Friday.

Young people also enjoyed the wide range of activities and workshops on offer throughout the weekend.

Activities included making music videos, short films and designing their own 3D game.

Pupils also had the opportunity to take part in dance workshops and rapping music classes, choreography and singing.

Students also did street dance and learned how to choreograph their own dance moves with the Loop Dance Company.

Young people also met professionals who had worked on the visual effects in the Harry Potter movies and worked in designing TV adverts for games giant Nintendo and mobile phone company Nokia.

They took part in a question and answer session.

Alison Young, event organiser, said: "The event has gone really well. We had hundreds of young people here doing some amazing stuff.

"We had people doing dance workshops, making a film in a day and another group making a radio play.

"The event gave young people a taste of the different media industries.

"BBC Blast has been on the road since April, visiting 27 places. Bexhill was our 24th stop."

Bexhill and Battle MP Greg Barker also took a tour around the different workshops and events on offer and spoke with pupils and teachers during his visit on Friday.

He said: "I really enjoyed being part of this event and am glad to see so many local young people involved in such an exciting and innovative event.

"It is really good to open people eye's to the fact that there is so much more to the entertainment industry than just appearing on stage and that behind the scenes lie a plethora of very skilled professionals."
