Bexhill care home out of special measures

Arden House Residential Care Home was rated as ‘inadequate’ by the Care Quality Commission (CQC) in November, 2015, and put into special measures after an inspection four months earlier.

But after inspections on May 25 and 26, the CQC found the Cantelupe Road care home had made changes and implemented an action plan to up its rating to ‘requires improvement’.

The report, published on July 6, said more needed to be done to make the home more responsive and well-led but applauded staff’s relationship with residents.

“Staffing levels were stable and sufficient in numbers to meet people’s identified needs,” the report said.

“People felt comfortable with staff and said, ‘great staff, caring with a sense of humour.’

“There was a lot of laughter and banter between people and the staff.

“We also saw some positive interaction between staff and the people they supported.”

Arden House had five regulatory breaches, ‘significant’ risks to residents and inappropriate care in the last inspection.

But 11 months later, the care home has turned its service around with only one regulatory breach found, and was taken out of special measures specifically because of the reduced risk in relation to managing medicines.

Arden House was also praised for being caring, as well as safe and effective although it needed time for some improvements to become fully embedded.
