Best ever show for Bexhill 100

A HEADY aroma of petrol, oil and polish, combined with the thrum of internal combustion engines, left little doubt as to what was happening at the Polegrove in Bexhill on Bank Holiday Monday.

The park hosted the Bexhill 100 Motoring Club's sixth annual classic and custom car show, and saw an event which was bigger and better than ever.

With more than 300 vehicles of various types and ages due to attend, the final figure on the day was over 400, exhibited by enthusiastic owners who travelled to Bexhill from throughout the southern counties.

James Braxton of television's Antiques Roadshow officially opened proceedings, and the Mayor of Bexhill, Councillor Jimmy Carroll, later visited in a vintage car.

Programme highlights included lively displays by the 1066 Gymnastics Academy and Kubjive Modern Jivers, and a host of trade stands added to the general interest.

Club chairman Dave Dickens Smith undoubtedly had it spot on when he said: "We are now in our 11th year and the club continues to go from strength to strength, with something like 180 members now involved.

"We've been proud to have helped contribute to the continuing promotion of Bexhill's motoring heritage, and I want to say a big thank you to everyone who contributed in whatever way to the success of our latest show."
