Arrest after Waitrose Storrington incident

A man has been arrested after reports that a woman was doused in inflammable liquid and suffered a cut at Waitrose in Storrington this afternoon (Wednesday April 29).

A spokesperson for Sussex police said: “A man has been arrested after attacking a woman in a store in Storrington.

Police and ambulance services were called the store in Old Mill Square just before 3pm on Wednesday (April 29) to a report of a woman being doused in a inflammable liquid and receiving a cut to her hand from a knife.

“The 52-year-old man, from Storrington, was disarmed and calmed by staff before police arrived.

“He was arrested on suspicion of attempted arson with intent to endanger life and actual bodily harm and was in custody on Wednesday evening.

“Anyone who witnessed the incident or has any information about it is asked to email [email protected] or call 101 quoting serial 822 of 29/04.”

Part of the store has been taped off by police who remain at the scene.

The store remains open to customers.
