Alarm about high rate of knife crime in West Sussex

ALARM about stabbing incidents and a high number of knife crimes and knife carrying in West Sussex has prompted a strong call for action.

East Worthing and Shoreham MP Tim Loughton has warned that knife crime is no longer a phenomenon limited to inner cities anymore.

He said: "It's obviously a problem all over the place and we are not immune from it."

"What's also worrying is that it is younger kids that are carrying knives as standard, and the victims of knife crime are increasingly younger children themselves, which is the most tragic aspect."

Last Tuesday 24-year-old Cassandra Hasanovic died after being stabbed in Normanton Avenue, Bognor.

Meanwhile, a 14-year-old boy was found guilty of stabbing a 16-year-old at Lewes Crown Court on Friday after an incident in Crawley in March.
