The County Times reported in February 2012 that the international best-selling artist Adele was renting the Partridge Green property for around £15,000 a month.

However a month later she was reported as buying a £2.5m home in Brighton.

According to Strutt and Parker the property was built around 1900 in the ‘Vernacular Revival’ style, and was extended and refurbished in the 1930s. Many of the Art Deco features have been retained, including built-in bedroom furniture and bathrooms.

The brochure reads: “Throughout, the property has been beautifully refurbished and planned for both a modern family lifestyle and for entertaining.

“Including the three bedroom adjoining staff accommodation and leisure complex the principal house extends in all to nearly 20,000 sq ft. In addition there is extensive garaging and a guest cottage.

“Lock House is situated in an outstanding rural location, surrounded by the Lock Estate, through which runs the River Adur.

“It is approached by a long private lane. Enjoying a high degree of peace and seclusion, the property has wonderful uninterrupted southerly rural views to the South Downs National Park.”

The property is also being advertised to rent by Savills for £15,000 a month.

Debbie Killeen, an associate at Savills Guildford lettings, said: “We have seen a resurgence in the number of tenants looking for a weekend country retreat.

“This area is ideal for international tenants who want quick access to both London airports, as well as to high net worth individuals who work in the capital and who retain a week-day home in London.

“At this level, tenants are seeking a country retreat which offers privacy and seclusion – somewhere they can entertain business colleagues as well as unwind with friends and family.

“Lock House fulfils much of the criteria these discerning individuals are seeking with details including the leisure complex and staff accommodation high on the list of requirements.”
