John writes, “With the 75th VE Day anniversary this month, I thought readers might be interested in the attached photographs.

“One is from 1939 and the second is the council in November 1945. My granddad Edgar Hill was an Eastbourne Borough councillor and then an Alderman and is in both photographs.

“Unfortunately the albums I have do not contain any photographs of VE Day. They do, however, contain a lot of cuttings from what was originally the Eastbourne Chronicle before it became the Eastbourne Herald and the Eastbourne Gazette. A fascinating history of events in the town which include the opening of the Police Station in Grove Road by the Marquess of Willingdon.”
