‘It was like a huge family’: Horsham home is praised for ‘amazing care’ of dying mother

A Horsham woman has praised a care home in the town for the way it looked after her dying mother.

Karen Fentum, 58, said Ashtonleigh care home in Wimblehurst Road gave amazing care to her mother during her last days.

She said Tess Fentum died aged 85 with lung cancer and Alzheimer’s Disease on Thursday April 16.

Karen, a palliative health care assistant at St Catherine’s Hospice, said: “The care was just unbelievable. They just love their residents.”

The home has many activities for those living there, Karen said.

She added: “They’re just so dedicated. It was just amazing care.

“I would love people locally to know how great they are. It was like a huge family.”

Karen said staff imposed rigorous hygiene practices to allow her visits to continue during the lockdown and even put a mattress in her mother’s room so she could spend time with her in her last days.

She added that she wanted to thank the care home for its care and extend her ‘love and hugs to every single staff member’.
