David Walliams has sent a good luck message to a Cranleigh girl who is swimming the length of the English channel in her paddling pool.

Connie Emmett, ten, used her pocket money to buy the pool and is swimming a total of 34,000 strokes using a bungee rope attached to the family car.

She’s raising money for the Royal Surrey Hospital in Guildford.

BBC Radio Surrey and BBC Radio Sussex contacted comedian David Walliams who joined in to support her efforts.

The Britain’s Got Talent star sent Connie a video message wishing her luck in her challenge.

In the message David, who swam the channel in 2006 for Sport Relief, said: “What you’re undertaking is absolutely incredible.

“Swimming the length of the channel in a paddling pool – I wish I’d thought of that.”

He added that it was ‘incredible’ Connie was using the time so positively and to help others.

David said: “I salute you. You are a superstar.”

Connie has already smashed her fundraising goal of £250, raising more than £1.900 for the hospital.
