Wind and rain leads to some parking restrictions suspended in Eastbourne

They say a Traffic Regulations Order is in place in roads in the town centre but because road markings have not been painted, wardens are unable to enforce parking restrictions.

People have been left frustrated by motorists parking in Cornfield Road, Gildredge Road and Station Parade due to a lack of double yellow lines, marked out parking bays and other signage.

East Sussex County Council, which is responsible for the highways and the parking scheme in Eastbourne, said, “We have scheduled in a number of days to carry out lining work on the new road surface in Eastbourne town centre but, as the work can only be carried out in dry weather, we have been prevented by the amount rain we have experienced in recent weeks.

“We would like to assure members of the public we will carry out the work to enable us to enforce parking restrictions at the first available opportunity.

“We appreciate the concerns over cars parking on unmarked roads in Eastbourne town centre.

“Until we are able to complete the road markings, we would urge motorists to park responsibly, considerately and safely.”
